"From the moment of her conception, Sawyer was, to the Methuselah, little else beyond an experimental specimen, an autonomous tool built for a singular purpose. She only began to learn how to view herself as a human being after an encounter with Hikaru Shinta at thirteen. However, the positive reinforcement that this meeting, along with the connections she managed to make between 2004 and 2010, were nearly reversed by the deaths of her 443 “sisters”, and her lapsing into a coma. The Methuselah’s lack of an initiative with regard to finding a way to heal her dealt a crippling blow to her esteem, and to her self-image. It took the intervention of Wolf’s Choice to remind Sawyer that she was, indeed, a human being with human rights.

Nevertheless, Sawyer is only too used to sacrificing her personal welfare and comfort in pursuit of the Vigil. It may not be so far of a stretch to say that her self-sacrificing tendencies are a result of her origins. Fortunately, her relationship with Samuel Crowley (better known under his shadow name, 108) seems to serve as a constant reminder of her worth as a person."
